US multinational Mitek has created nearly 200 new jobs at its R&D centre in Catalonia, which it established in 2017 and has since become the company’s main global hub. The multinational corporation specialises in developing digital identity verification and official document authentication technologies using artificial intelligence (AI).

From its R&D and innovation centre in Cerdanyola, Barcelona, Mitek leads the development of innovative products and services for the whole group worldwide. It is the company’s largest R&D site and has seen significant growth over the past two years, with a 65% increase in its workforce. More than half of Mitek’s global product development and R&D staff is based in Catalonia, made up of professionals highly specialised in artificial intelligence and advanced technologies.

Mitek specifically focuses on developing technology solutions to verify digital identity and authenticate documents. Among others, these solutions are powered by artificial intelligence, incorporating biometric analysis, traditional computer vision and advanced deep-learning techniques. The company aims to enhance security by preventing identity fraud and financial transaction fraud, among other threats.

The US-based company established its presence in Catalonia in 2017 by acquiring ICAR Vision Systems, a Catalan company originally created as a spin-off of the Computer Vision Centre (CVC) at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). Founded in 1986 with its headquarters in San Diego, California (USA), Mitek currently has offices in New York, London, Paris and Amsterdam, in addition to its Barcelona location.
