● The center will support the whole of Europe in the development of projects in 5G technology

● G + D affirms that Catalonia is one of the best places in Europe to find qualified talent

The German group Giesecke+Devrient (G+D), specialized in security in the digital field, has created 60 new jobs to boost its R&D center in El Prat de Llobregat. The company, which was established in Catalonia in 1987 and which today already has more than 750 workers, is consolidated with this center that will support all of Europe in the development of projects based on 5G technology for the telephony sectors mobile and automotive.

The company concentrates the production of smartcards in Europe in El Prat and there it has located one of its most important research and development hubs on a global scale. Among other lines, from this center it works on projects in the field of 5G, such as the development of hardware and software, as well as projects for data generation servers for applications such as IoT, mobile developers or the automotive industry.

Company sources highlight that the deployment of 5G technology implies changes in all elements and agents of the mobile connectivity ecosystem, and this impacts the operation of traditional and virtual SIM cards. Given this situation, 5G technology offers more information transfer capabilities and opens up a whole new range of new mobile applications.

From G + D they add that the fact of being in Catalonia gives them access to a high educational offer in engineering and technical degrees. Moreover, the presence of other companies that are committed to digitization, security, and new technologies, make it one of the best enclaves in Europe where to find highly qualified talent. In this sense, G + D plans to continue expanding the staff of this R&D center, with the incorporation of qualified profiles from areas such as computer engineering, telecommunications, or electronics, among others.

Founded in 1852 and headquartered in Munich, G + D has a global workforce of around 11,500 workers in 33 countries, and closed 2019 with a turnover of 2.45 billion euros. Globally, the German company develops, produces, and markets products and solutions in the fields of analogue and digital payments, the digital connectivity of people and machines on the Internet or the protection of identities and digital infrastructures.
