Amazon has announced the opening of a new logistics centre in El Far d’Empordà (Girona), becoming the multinational’s first logistics centre in the province.

The company has significantly increased its presence in Catalonia over the last few years, with 10 operations centres in the region by the end of 2021, distributed among 7 logistics stations, 3 logistics centres, 1 distribution centre and 1 urban centre.

Amazon has planned to expand its current workforce of more than 12,000 people in Spain, with the aim of exceeding 15,000 permanent employees by the end of 2021.

This 85,000 m² macro-project in the Logid Empordà industrial estate (Girona) is expected to create 200 jobs in the area. Jaume Arnall, mayor of the municipality, is convinced that this project will turn the region into an “important logistical node”, generating an indirect economic boost for the province.
