During the latest Mobile World Congress, the Barcelona City Council and Huawei announced a new collaboration agreement to promote innovation and training in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in 2025. This strategic partnership aims to drive forward key initiatives in the city, focusing on smart cities, smart buildings, connectivity, green energy and digital platforms.
In terms of ICT training, the initiatives will be supported by Huawei Spain Academy. The first institution of its kind in Europe, it was created recently to foster digital skills and talent development around Spain. The training programmes will take place under the IT Academy, the advanced technology training centre run by Barcelona Activa, which already has solid experience in areas like programming and big data.
At the announcement of the agreement, Huawei representatives highlighted the company’s commitment to innovation and the digital transformation of cities. They noted that Barcelona stands out as a global benchmark in technology and sustainability, and that the initiatives launched through this collaboration will help build a more efficient, sustainable, inclusive digital ecosystem.
Through this partnership, the Barcelona City Council and Huawei are strengthening their joint efforts to develop innovative solutions that advance digitalisation and sustainability, reinforcing Barcelona’s position as a leader in the use of technology to benefit the public.
