French biopharmaceutical company Sanofi is strengthening its commitment to Barcelona by launching a new international centre of excellence. This will be the company’s second worldwide, based in the city’s 22@ district. The hub will create over 300 highly skilled jobs in data science, AI engineering, digital product development and advanced analytics.

This new centre is part of Sanofi’s strategy to prioritise AI and become the first biopharmaceutical company to adopt this technology on a large scale. The company expects the hub, which will work to drive innovation and transform the future of medicine, to be fully operational by the end of this year.

Sanofi’s AI centre will lead the generation of real-world evidence, a research methodology based on data from healthcare systems, with support from experts in biostatistics, statistical programming and clinical data analysis, as well as engineering and data science.

Sources inside Sanofi highlight their confidence in Barcelona’s innovation ecosystem, where they are not only creating high-value jobs, but also helping position Catalonia and Spain as key drivers in the transformation of Europe’s healthcare system.

So, Sanofi is bolstering its presence in Spain, where it has offices in Madrid and Barcelona, and a manufacturing facility in Riells i Viabrea (Girona). In the Spanish market, the company employs over 1,400 professionals and has invested more than €250 million in R&D over the past five years.
