  • The Catalan capital beat several other European cities in attracting this project
  • This new announcement consolidates Barcelona as one of Europe’s leading IT hubs

The multinational company Nestlé  is maintaining its long-held investment commitment in Catalonia and has once again chosen Barcelona, this time as the site of its new global centre for digital information. The investment involves the Nestlé pet food subsidiary Nestlé Purina Petcare, which has chosen the Catalan capital for the construction of Purina Studios, its new digital hub.

This new centre will specialize in e-commerce, Internet, social networks and relationships with key groups for the brand, such as veterinarians, media, consumers and NGOs, among others. Working from Barcelona, it will serve over 40 countries in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.

The Catalan capital beat several European cities in attracting the latest project from the Swiss multinational group, which will be locating in some 1,000 square metres of office space in Esplugues de Llobregat, Barcelona. Numerous digital experts from Nestlé Purina have recently moved in to the area from the United Kingdom, France and the group headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.

This new announcement means that Barcelona is progressively establishing itself as one of Europe’s main IT hubs. Sources from the company stated that in choosing the Catalan capital, those factors that held a decisive influence were an extremely favourable mobile and digital ecosystem, quality of life, the availability of qualified talent and the international appeal of the city. In 2016, Nestlé installed the Global Digital technology centre in Barcelona for work on web development and mobile applications, and which employs over 100 people.
