Japanese cybersecurity leader Trend Micro chooses Barcelona for its European hub
Located in the city’s 22@ district, the new facilities will employ 300 professionals by 2027

Trend Micro, the Japanese multinational and global leader in cybersecurity, has chosen Barcelona as the site of its strategic hub for southern European operations. The new facilities in the city’s 22@ district will employ 300 professionals by 2027, marking the completion of the first phase of a larger project designed to strengthen the company’s leadership from Barcelona.
As an initial step in this new venture, Trend Micro has opened a corporate office in Barcelona’s Torre Mapfre. This new hub will host key functions in engineering, operations, support and business development, while also serving as a point of connection with academic institutions and other players in the cybersecurity ecosystem.
In selecting Barcelona, the company highlighted its international connectivity, high quality of life, reasonable set-up costs and strong IT business ecosystem. It also pointed to the presence of the Mobile World Congress, business incubators, universities, research centres and the dynamic business community of the 22@ district. Trend Micro employs 7,500 professionals worldwide and generates nearly $3 billion in annual revenue.
The cybersecurity sector is seeing rapid growth in Barcelona, which is now home to 160 international tech hubs employing nearly 35,000 professionals and generating €2.8 billion in economic impact, 36% of which comes from cybersecurity. Across Catalonia, there are over 500 cybersecurity companies employing 10,600 professionals, with a combined annual turnover of €1.473 billion.
