Equinix, global leader in digital infrastructure, has opened its first data center in Barcelona, with an investment of 52 million euros. The new center, called BCN1, has been built with the aim of promoting connectivity and digital services in the region, consolidating Barcelona as one of the most important technological hubs in southern Europe.

This data center offers placement, interconnection and connectivity services for local and international companies, especially in the telecommunications, finance, e-commerce and health sectors. The aim is to facilitate the expansion of companies into new global markets thanks to a secure and efficient infrastructure.

Barcelona has been chosen for its strategic position between Europe, Africa and Latin America, as well as for its growing technological ecosystem. According to Charles Meyers, CEO of Equinix, “Barcelona is a key center for digital transformation in Europe, and this center will help boost the digital growth of the region.”

One of the strengths of BCN1 is its commitment to sustainability. The centre uses advanced technologies to minimize energy consumption, with the aim of reducing the carbon footprint and making operations 100% neutral in emissions in the near future.

The construction of this data center has had a positive impact on the local economy, generating numerous jobs. Equinix hopes that BCN1 will become an essential pillar for the digital development of Catalan companies, supporting both large corporations and SMEs that need high-level connectivity services.

With the inauguration of BCN1, Barcelona reinforces its position as a hub of technological attraction, attracting new investments and companies that want to take advantage of digital infrastructures and the innovative environment of the city. This investment by Equinix is added to other technological projects that place Barcelona as a benchmark in the global connectivity map.
