Deeplabs, the life sciences investment platform of the real estate fund Stoneshield, has already invested €35 million – set to reach €70 million by 2026 – in its biomedical campus located on the premises of the BASID laboratories in Esplugues de Llobregat, Barcelona.

At the campus, Deeplabs has completed the rehabilitation of the first 4,000 square metres of the buildings it acquired in early 2024 for €220 million, aiming to create a scientific hub to meet the growing demand for facilities from pharmaceutical and science-related companies. Over the next three years, up to 11,600 square metres will be rehabilitated out of a total of 60,000 available across all the buildings.

The BASID complex is currently home to companies such as Bayer, Agfa Healthcare and Stockmeier, with an occupancy rate of 83%. Furthermore, Lainco, qGenomics, Koa Biotech and Poseidona are set to establish operations there soon.

Esplugues de Llobregat is becoming a scientific hub for the sector, hosting companies like Salvat, Galenicum, Aldo-Unión and Bayer itself. Qiagen has recently relocated to its new facilities at the former Braun factory, and the area is also home to the Sant Joan Despí and Sant Joan de Déu hospitals. Additionally, it will soon host the future Vithas Hospital and the new Hospital Clínic.
