Catalan exports rose 3.4% year-on-year in September, recovering from the 7.3% drop in August and marking the second highest figure for the month of September, according to data published recently by the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism. In total, Catalonia sold goods abroad valued at €8.0898 billion.

This increase was mainly due to the good results in the capital goods and chemicals sectors. On the other hand, however, the food and automotive sectors sold less abroad. In any case, from January to September, exports were still down 2.9% year-on-year, with €74.1829 billion. It should be noted that the automotive sector experienced a noteworthy drop in exports, down 16.1% to €1.0018 billion.

By sectors, chemicals (up 6.7% to €2.3692 billion) remained the biggest exporter. Overall, the sector with the most growth in sales abroad was capital goods, up 11.9% in exports for €1.3336 billion. The increase in sales abroad of energy products is also worth noting, with €413.8 million (+57.2%).

Looking at cumulative sales for 2024 between January and September, the sector with the most exports was also chemicals (€22.4876 billion), while food and beverages, up 2.4%, was ranked second with €11.3589 billion in exports.
