The Barcelona City CouncilOracleGovernment of Catalonia and BDigital have kicked off the Big Data Center of Excellence, which aims to give companies and organizations innovative technological solutions to meeting their data-management and valorization needs.

The project will allow companies to significantly improve their strategic decision-making, speed up innovation in the business sector and be based on four key pillars: generating knowledge, providing data-valorization services, training and dissemination.

Located in the Barcelona Growth Center building, the center initially has 8 professionals. It is expected to add 8 more positions in 2015 and employ 25 workers by 2020.  Big Data will generate great opportunities for companies and allow them to create high-quality jobs.

Furthermore, the Barcelona Advanced Industry Park(BAIP) was also launched recently. This facility focuses on dynamizing the city’s industrial fabric and industrial growth, and currently has 50 engineering companies.

With the BAIP, the City Council aims to breathe new life into Barcelona Nord Technology Park, focusing more on industrial projects and positioning the Catalan capital as a global benchmark in the sector, reaffirming its commitment to companies, industry and employment, and with the end goal of fostering innovation, raising awareness of applied engineering and new advanced manufacturing techniques, and contributing to the development of industry.

This desire is complemented with a new line of grants with a total of 5 million euros for 500 companies interested in investing in new industrial projects, and the first Industry ioT Solutions World Congress (IoT Barcelona), which the Catalan capital will host in September.
