Pharmaceutical company Bayer has recently launched a new R&D division for health and agriculture at its shared services centre in Sant Joan Despí, Barcelona, adding 82 new professionals. This unit will serve the multinational’s various divisions by developing operations for clinical trials and managing safety and quality processes for medicines.

Bayer’s shared services centre in Sant Joan Despí, established in 2001, plays a key role in the company’s transformation and digitalisation efforts and serves as a global benchmark in implementing new operational models. The centre’s team comprises professionals from over 50 nationalities and undertakes internationally oriented projects, providing services to more than eleven countries across Europe and the Middle East.

With the launch of this new R&D division, the centre further strengthens its position as a hub of excellence within Bayer’s organisation. Since its opening, the centre has progressively incorporated new areas of development, specialising in the application of artificial intelligence to improve efficiency, traceability and agility in its processes.

According to the company, this milestone would not have been possible without collaboration with public and private institutions in the country and a favourable ecosystem for job creation and economic development. Over the past five years, the centre’s workforce has grown by 75%, increasing from 471 to 822 professionals with scientific expertise.
