Barcelona has been highlighted as the third preferred city for new companies in Europe, according to StartUp Heatmap Europe and the World’s Best Cities 2024. The city is ranked eighth worldwide and third in Europe, standing out for its human capital, education, local and international connections, and openness. More than 50% of the jobs are in areas of high knowledge, with scientific facilities such as the Alba synchrotron and the Mare Nostrum supercomputer.

Projects such as La Ciutadella of Knowledge Hub promote science and innovation. Thanks to the strategy, Barcelona Green Deal awarded the city with the European Entrepreneurial Region Award 2023.
