  • • El Prat leads Group 1, which encompasses airports with more than 25 million passengers

According to data published recently by the Airports Council International Europe (ACI EUROPE), Barcelona-El Prat grew more than any other airport in the European Union in February. Up 20.4%, the airport in the Catalan capital is the leader in Group 1, which encompasses facilities with more than 25 million passengers. In this regard, the Catalan facility saw its best February in history (in part due to the impact of the Mobile World Congress) after reaching 2.7 million passengers.

It must be noted that the greatest growth came in intercontinental passengers in February, up 22% from the same period in 2015. Flights from Latin America increased the most, up 31.5%, followed by the number of passengers from the Middle East, up 31.4%, and North America, up 20.7%.

Furthermore, March came to a close with passengers up 14.1% for a total of 3.3 million. At the close of the quarter, the Barcelona-El Prat Airport posed a 16.1% increase in the number of passengers, for a total of 8.5 million since the beginning of the year.

Intercontinental traffic at Barcelona Airport up 31% between 2010 and 2015
The Government of Catalonia, Barcelona City Council, Barcelona Chamber of Commerce and Barcelona-El Prat Airport presented the results for 2015 from the Barcelona Air Route Development Committee (CDRA) and the CDRA Strategic Plan 2016-2017.

The CDRA contributed to bringing 5,610,472 intercontinental passengers to the Barcelona-El Prat Airport in 2015, with new routes and frequencies. In this regard, intercontinental air traffic at the airport is up 31% from 2010.
