  • The cumulative figure is a new record for passengers through May.
  • Cargo transport is up 11% from last year.

The Barcelona-El Prat airport saw 6.1% more passengers in May, receiving more than 3.6 million users. This is a new record for the year-to-date figure through May.

From January to May, the Barcelona-El Prat airport saw more than 14.3 million users, up 5.4% from the same period the previous year. The greatest increase came in Europeans passengers, up 9% from May of last year.
In 2014, the facility hit an all-time record, closing out the year with 37,559,044 passengers, up 6.7% from 2013. This record could be broken again this year if passenger growth continues as expected.
Likewise, the increase in cargo transport is also noteworthy, up 11%, fuelled mainly by the growth in the international market, up 19.6%.

Barcelona-El Prat, among global Top 10 airports with 30 to 40 million passengers
The Barcelona-El Prat airport is seventh on the global ranking of airports with 30 to 40 million passengers, according to the World Airport Awards 2015. This ranking is compiled by Skytrax, a consultancy that specializes in analyzing the quality of service in airlines and airports around the world. The Catalan facility has also been recognized as the best in southern Europe.
