US-based Digital Realty invests €230 million in new data centre in Sant Adrià de Besòs
The facility is set to begin operations in the first quarter of 2026 and adds to a growing cluster of digital-economy projects in the Besòs area

Digital Realty, the leading US data infrastructure company, is building a new data centre in Sant Adrià de Besòs (Barcelona), as part of a project with a total investment of €230 million. The facility is scheduled to begin operations in the first quarter of 2026, with the 13,000-square-metre main building set for completion by 30 January 2026.
This new facility joins other data centres that have been established in the Barcelona area in recent years. According to a report by analytics firm Foundry, the Catalan capital will reach 173 MW of installed data centre capacity in 2025, with total investment exceeding €1 billion.
The launch of this new facility provides a significant boost to development of the Eix Besòs, alongside several other digital-economy projects in Sant Adrià in recent years, such as the Barcelona Cable Landing Station and the Catalunya Media City audiovisual hub on the Tres Xemeneies site.
This investment reinforces Barcelona’s growing role as a hub for interconnection and digital services in the Mediterranean. The Digital Realty centre is part of the wider Besòs innovation corridor, complementing other important projects.
Barcelona is rapidly consolidating its leadership in the data centre sector. The report Barcelona: Digital Gateway to the Mediterranean, published in 2024 by Digital Realty, DE-CIX and Foundry, with support from the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, projected that the city’s data centres could generate €7 billion in 2025, underscoring Barcelona’s emerging role as a digital centre connecting Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
