Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport has recorded a historic first half of the year with 27,183,432 passengers, 4.2% more than in the same period of 2024 and the highest figure ever recorded for these six months, according to public airport operator Aena.

The strongest growth came from international commercial flights, which rose by 5.6% to 20,268,877 passengers, while domestic traffic edged up by 0.2% to 6,864,381. A total of 174,093 operations were recorded between January and June, 4.3% more than in the first half of last year.

In July alone, the airport handled 5.54 million passengers, up 2.9% on the previous year. Between January and July, traffic reached 32.7 million passengers, a 4% increase compared with 2024. Operations also hit record levels, with 33,660 flights in July (+2.7%). So far this year, total movements stand at 207,753, up 4%.

Cargo traffic also set a record: between January and June, 93,369 tonnes were transported, 4.8% more than in the same period of 2024, making it the best first half-year ever for air freight in Barcelona.

Catalonia’s secondary airports continue to show strong performance. Girona-Costa Brava Airport handled 327,075 passengers in July (+14.1%), surpassing 1.22 million passengers since the start of 2025 (+16.1%). Reus Airport also closed the month on an upward trend, with 222,453 passengers (+11.5%) and a year-to-date total of 744,432 (+12.3%).
