Tres Xemeneies complex to become new Catalunya Media City audiovisual hub
Construction works, with a total investment of €70.8 million, are set to begin in summer 2026

A new, definitive boost for Catalunya Media City, the audiovisual hub that will be located at the Tres Xemeneies Besòs site. The Catalan Government has promoted the signing of a collaboration protocol to align all the institutions involved and coordinate actions to carry out the project, while progress continues on refurbishing and expanding the Turbine Hall and building two large new stages at Parc Audiovisual de Catalunya (PAC) in Terrassa.
These are the two pillars of a nation-building initiative based on public-private partnership that aims to give Catalonia a benchmark centre in production, research, training, professional specialisation and services for the audiovisual, digital content and video-game sectors. It will be a next-generation technology and training park equipped with advanced services and infrastructures, with local, regional and international connections, patterned after iconic international hubs such as Hilversum in the Netherlands and MediaCityUK in the United Kingdom.
Works will begin to refurbish and expand the Turbine Hall at Catalunya Media City in the summer of 2026 and are expected to be completed by the end of 2028. A total of €70.8 million will be invested in the project. The facilities will include training areas and a cultural centre to showcase the latest audiovisual and digital trends. Plus, it aims to be a benchmark in research and innovation. The centre will complement Parc Audiovisual de Catalunya in Terrassa, where €13 million will be invested to build two large new stages, measuring 2,200 m2 and 1,000 m2 respectively.
Catalunya Media City is part of the Catalonia Leads Plan, the Catalan Government’s transversal strategy to position Catalonia among the leading regions in Europe. The goal is for Catalunya Media City to become a strategic hub for the audiovisual and digital sectors, with a positive economic impact and global outlook on innovation and production.
