The Barcelona Observatory 2023, an initiative of the Barcelona City Council and the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, has certified that the city remains among the top cities in the world for professionals and entrepreneurs to live, work or establish a start-up.

According to the Observatory, which compiles data from various benchmark global reports, including Decoding Global Talent 2024, World’s Best Cities Report 2024 and Global Power City Index, among others, Barcelona is the eighth most attractive city in the world to work (ahead of Tokyo, Los Angeles and Paris) and tenth in the world for digital and tech professionals.

In this sense, the Barcelona Observatory 2023 shows that the Catalan capital has consolidated its place as one of the leading cities in tech, science and research.

Additionally, Barcelona is ranked eighth in the world and third in Europe for entrepreneurs, professionals and residents, is among the top 25 cities in global competitiveness and eleventh on the European ranking, ahead of Brussels, Geneva and Milan.

Finally, looking at foreign investment, Barcelona had the best strategy to attract foreign investment projects for the third year in a row, according to the FDi Cities and Regions of the Future 2024FDi Cities and Regions of the Future 2024 report, ahead of London and Berlin.

The Observatory has become a reference for measuring Barcelona’s competitiveness and its business, innovation and cultural fabric. The study aims to provide benchmarks for institutions and multinational corporations interested in doing business or setting up in Barcelona, and to attract talent and support bids to host events or open headquarters in the city.
