The manager Stoneshield Capital, through its Life Science and innovation platform, Deeplabs, has completed the acquisition of five assets located in the towns of Sant Joan Despí and Esplugues de Llobregat, with the ambition of establishing the first nerve center for science and innovation in Catalonia.

This project, called Barcelona Science Innovation District (BaSID), represents a significant investment of more than 200 million euros and will cover a total area of approximately 75,000 square meters.

The main objective of Stoneshield Capital is to promote Barcelona as a benchmark in infrastructure for science and innovation. As explained by Javier de Pablo, co-CEO of Deeplabs, «BaSID will become the first private Life Science hub in Catalonia», offering cutting-edge facilities for companies, entities and research centers that demand this type of space, which are currently scarce in Spain.

BaSID has as its model the successful MaSID, the first Life Science innovation hub in Spain, located in Tres Cantos (Madrid), where numerous companies in the sector operate. This scientific and technological district approach, led by Deeplabs, has precedents in other countries but represents a novelty in Spain. According to Pilar Gil, co-CEO and CSO of Deeplabs, this initiative introduces a new standard of advanced scientific hub, crucial to improving the competitiveness of the sector in the country.
