The Port Authority of Barcelona and Vinci Energies Spain have begun work to electrify the vessels at the Barcelona Ferry Terminal, thus reducing port emissions.

The works are expected to be completed by the end of the year, with the infrastructure operational in December 2024. The project, awarded to the UTE Omexom Puerto de Barcelona in June, includes drafting, execution and maintenance for more than 3.5 million euros.

Once completed, the port will have two mooring points with Onshore Power Supply (OPS) systems, part of the Nexigen plan to electrify docks. Vinci Energies Spain, with global experience in OPS, highlights the significant reduction in emissions, supported by estimates from State Ports.
