Despite rising prices due to inflation, hotels in the Catalan capital were almost full during Easter. According to Eduard Torres, president of Barcelona Tourism, “It went very well. There has been a lot of demand.” Most visitors came from other parts of Europe, especially the UK, France and Germany, although there has also been an increase in visitors from the United States. The number of tourists from Asian countries is slowly increasing again as flight connections are restored after the pandemic.

The president of Barcelona Tourism, Eduard Torres, expects this year to be a good one in terms of tourism and believes there will be no increase in the number of visitors because of the limited accommodation options in the city. The president of the association of travel agencies Acave, Jordi Martí, has stated that Easter has been good for business, as more than 80% of the association’s companies have invoiced more in 2023 than in 2022 because of the good weather.

During the Easter holidays, hotels and campsites in the Barcelona area had high occupancy rates of 90% and 70% to 90% respectively. Most visitors were families and young people from Catalonia or other parts of Spain, followed by European tourists from France, the UK, Germany and northern Europe. Official occupancy figures will be known later this week.
