The Austrian company will create 185 direct jobs in Tortosa (Tarragona) with the new factory specialised in the production of wooden planks.
The multinational company Kronospan announced last October its investment of 180 million euros for the construction of a new factory, specialised in the production of 100% sustainable wood planks for furniture, which will be located in Tortosa.
The arrival of this Austrian company will mean a great injection for the economic development of the area. The local council underlines that this is the most important investment made in the last 30 years in Terres de l’Ebre, an area that has been punished in recent years by the threat of depopulation.
Kronospan now has 40 factories around the world and, in addition to providing employment for 14,500 workers, sustainability is one of its fundamental pillars, since the manufacture of its wood panels is largely carried out with waste wood, which it treats and recycles to give it a second life.
The Minister of Enterprise and Employment, Roger Torrent, stresses that this operation not only represents a great step forward for the economy of the region, but also fits in with the objectives of sustainability and circular economy that are defended by the Generalitat.
